The Land Trust of Napa County

The Land Trust of Napa County (LTNC) works to protect natural habitats and environments through the Napa County region. The SFF recently supported an LTNC project to document and quantify the wildlife at several protected sites to better understand how animals use and travel across the landscape. Remote cameras are deployed in a grid pattern and by analyzing the resulting images using a tool called the Wildlife Picture Index (WPI), investigators can estimate the number of species in an area and several measures of how many of each species may be present. These results will be shared with cooperating partners to better protect and enhance wildlife habitats.
