Applegate Trails Association
2017 Report
The Applegate Trails Association is a non-profit Oregon group formed by community residents to develop a system of hiking, mountain biking, and equestrian trails in the mountains of the Applegate Valley of southern Oregon. The ATA cooperates with public land agencies, community organizations, and private landowners to preserve and connect historic trails for the broader community and generations to come.
In 2017, the ATA received a grant from the Schwemm Family Foundation to construct the first section of a non-motorized trail that will connect the city of Jacksonville to the city of Grants Pass. This 5.6 mile section of trail is on Bureau of Land Management land and has wonderful views of the mountains and valleys of southern Oregon. This portion of the trail will also eventually connect to a trail being constructed to the south from Ashland to Jacksonville.
In addition to the building of this trail, funds from the SFF were used to create a trail-orientation kiosk at the beginning of the trail.
